Interviu Tetine
October 24, 2006 on 12:58 pm | In Editia Octombrie 2006 | Nici un comentariu Sursa : metropotam.ro1. You are both from Brazil, how did this influence your work?
Bruno : Yes, we ‘re both from Brazil and the country has been an big influence in our work since the beginning. Tetine music is totally autobiographical therefore it is pretty much about what we live no matter where we are. Brazil has a big part on it poetics.
2.Why did you move to England? Was it difficult to shift cultural and social environment? What impact had this upon your work and you, personally?
Eli: We were invited to be artists in residence at Queen Mary university for 9 months to produce our work and also work with art students in a piece about a Brazilian author called Nelson Rodrigues. Then after this 9 months working there we got signed by Sulphur Records to make an album called Samba de Monalisa in collaboration with French artist Sophie Calle. Then we decided that the best thing was to stay in England for a while to tour and etc… We ended up staying more than the planned and here we are till today. The shifts were all good cos we were really up to experience life in another country. I guess it had a big impact in our music and just add more layers to the whole project. We live in East London which is an extremely multicultural area, here we got into the whole ghetto thing through grime to the art scene. But what I like the most is the fact I can go to my laundry and talk to locals and then come home and make a song about it.
3. When speaking about what you do it is enough to say “music” because it’s obviously more than that; that is when you perform live. So…how do you describe your work?
Bruno: I think we’re artists making music. In Brazil we used to call it ‘sensorial music’
4. Is there anything or any place that you get inspiration from?
Eli: As I told you we got inspired by doing simple stuff most of the time -by riding buses, by going to the laundry, by watching a movie/ an art show or going to parties with friends or going to the supermarket. Tetine is totally ‘a real time’ kind of experience.
5.Supposedly the Europeans were not very familiar with the “funk carioca” or “favela funk” style. How did the public welcome it?
Bruno: Well I think by now people are getting used to it! Back in 2002 it was really a ghetto thing. No one really knew about it except Brazilians. Most of the time the reception of the style is really cool. We call what we do in L.I.C.K MY FAVELA more like a Punk Carioca meets Mutant Disco in a Tetine way. It’s all about dancing, sexual politics and raw beats.
6.What are the genuine “bailes funk” in favelas like and how popular are they in Brazilian culture?
Tetine: They are amazing, sexy and raw with thousands of people dancing and extremely popular since the 70’s.
7.Have you ever been in Romania? What do you know about the Romanian underground stage and the Romanian public?
Bruno: No we haven’t. I don’t know much about the Romania underground scene . I would love to know more. The only thing I know is about a band called Hector who has just sent us a myspace message, I heard the first song and its sound cool. I’m looking forward to coming to Bucharest!
8. Do you plan or direct your live performances or have any expectations from a certain show?
Eli: We decide on the songs we want to play according to our mood and the audience.
9. In Bucharest you are going to share the stage with Noblesse Oblige. Has this happened before? What do you think about Sebastian and Valerie’s style?
Bruno: Yes we played with them once here in East London but they were only Djying. This will be our first time playing live on the same bill. We love them. Great music and sweet people!

Interviu Noblesse Oblige
October 17, 2006 on 5:31 pm | In Editia Octombrie 2006 | Nici un comentariu Sursa: www.metropotam.roNoblesse Oblige vor canta in Romania la Amsterdam White House pe 27 octombrie.
How did Franco/German style get along with English audience?
Valerie: So far it’s been a total “Entente cordiale”
You have described your music style in a very uncommon way: “spaghetti western and chansonette?” What exactly do you mean by that?
Sebastian: Spaghetti western is a western movie genre. They were mainly made by italian directors like Sergio Leone using soundtracks by italian composers such as Ennio Morricone, hence the name “spaghetti”. In some of our songs - Surrender for example - we have incorporated guitar sounds used in these soundtracks.
Chanson is a common term for french cabaret and 60´s pop music. Its influences can be heard in many of our songs, most evidently in Quel Genre de Garcon.
The band was founded back in 2004, yet your first album was only released 2 years later. What took you so long?
S: That´s the way the music industry works. In fact, we had finished the album one and a half years before it was released. As this was also pretty much a self release, things took longer as it was the first time for us and we learnt a lot on the way. The album was also preceeded by two singles.
What does Noblesse oblige you? What made you choose this name?
S: It sounds good and the its meaning is as relevant as ever.
You performed on various underground stages around Europe. Is there a difference between performing for the German public and, say… the Italian one?
V: Every audience is different, but they all lose control if the show is ‘hot.’
Have you ever been in Romania?
S: No.
V: No, it will be a grand premiere for us, very exciting!
What do you know about the Romanian underground music and audience?
S: Apart from OZON, not much.
V: Apart from British and American bands, it’s very hard for music to travel outside the country where it’s made.
British radio stations almost play 100% anglo saxon music so it’s hard to be aware of what’s happening outside that circuit. Fortunately thanks to our touring in Europe we get to hear all kind of sounds and we’re looking forward to discover Romanian underground music.
Do your “wild and spectacular shows” have the impact upon the public or is it the other way round?
V: Performing live is the best. You get in direct contact with the people who are jumping up and down to your tunes, we get to smell each other sweat!
Tell us more about “Caligula.” Why Shoreditch (London) only? Have you considered making it (inter)national ?
S: We´re planning to organise regular Caligula events in London, Berlin and Paris in the near future.
V: It’s about having fun, inviting bands we like to play live and DJ’ing our favourite music, looking sharp, dancing crazy and eating grapes without your hands.
Formata in 1995 in Sao Paulo, Brazilia, de Eliete Mejorado si Bruno Verner, Tetine debuteaza in 1996 cu albumul “Alexander’s Grave”, sub propriul label, High School Records.
Urmeaza albumele „Bonde do Tetao” (tot in 2004) si „The Sexual Life of The Savages on Soul Jazz Records” (2005). „L.I.C.K My Favela” este cel mai recent material al trupei, si a fost lansat in 2006 in editie limitata.
